Israel – God Ruled
George Burnside
Genesis 32:28. "A Prince of God." Margin.
The word Israel has been defined as "Governed by God," or as "God ruled." A prince is controlled by his king, so Israel will be governed by the Lord. We have seen this illustrated in the experience of the Duke of Windsor. As a prince he could not do just what he wanted. He could not marry whom he wanted - that is - and remain a prince. So Israel must be surrendered to God's will or cease to be Israel (God-ruled). When Israel rebelled against God, served other gods and was governed by pagans and false gods, the Lord did not recognize them as Israel. Yet when they came back to God, they were recognized as Israel again. This reveals again the amazing accuracy of the Bible. By subtracting the 114 years of servitude and usurpation from the 594 years as shown on this chart, the 480 years of 1 Kings 6:1 is obtained when they were recognized as Israel, as belonging to Him.
