Matthew 1:1 The first word in the New Testament is "The Book". Christianity is based on a Book. On a written record, not a tradition, philosophy or human reasoning.
"THE BOOK" CAME BY REVELATION
Psalm 103:7 "He made known His ways unto Moses". God never left Moses to discover truth.
Deuteronomy 29:29 Things which are revealed.
Amos 3:7 "He reveals His secrets".
Galatians 1:12 "I received it by revelation of Jesus Christ."
The Bible did not originate by human reasoning. It is never out-of-date. Holy Bible Book Divine, Price only one and nine. The devil trembles when he sees Bibles sold as cheap as these. Notice on London book shop nearly 100 years ago. Today Bible Societies publish a Bible every two seconds. The Bible is more up-to-date than today's newspaper, and much more reliable.
THE GENERATION OF JESUS CHRIST
The O.T. begins with the beginning of the world.
The N.T. begins with the beginning of the One who made the world. He existed before, but not as Christ.
THE SON OF DAVID, THE SON OF ABRAHAM
David is mentioned first, but lived many years after Abraham. The Jews are descendants of Abraham, but not many of them descended from David. Christ is called "Son of David". Matthew 1:17 Abraham to David = 14 Generations.
David to Captivity = 14 Generations.
Captivity to Christ = 14 Generations.
Genesis 5 = 10 Generations.
Genesis 11 = 10 Generations.
62 Generations from Creation to Christ. Each period covers an important period. Each period ends with an important event. Each period ends with an important personage.
THE AGE OF THE EARTH
"Infidel geologists claim that the world is very much older than the Bible record makes it. The world is now only about six thousand years old." Spiritual Gifts Volume 3, page 91, 92.
EITHER INSPIRATION OR SPECULATION
Reject Inspiration "about 6,000 years". -- One is left in the open sea of speculation = There is no limit where one could go from thousands to millions of years. Modernists hate Genesis 1 to 11. They try to downgrade the Genealogies.
Matthew 22:42 "What think ye of Christ. Whose son is He? They say unto Him, The Son of David."
All Israel knew the long looked for Messiah would be of the royal lineage of David. Not by chance New Testament opens "Jesus Christ, the Son of David". Genealogies preserved to prove Jesus the Christ. Then all the genealogies were hopelessly lost.
Matthew 1:1 Why are there only fourteen generations listed from David to the Captivity? When there were eighteen kings during that period.
THE SIGNIFICANT ANSWER
There was corruption in that line. God purged out the line unto the third and fourth generation.
