Introduction

Many Christians today believe that since Jesus died on the cross we are no longer under the authority of the Ten Commandments and the necessity of keeping the Seventh day Sabbath. They further allege that the Old Testament is irrelevant to the New Testament worshipper and that Jesus annulled everything in the Hebrew scriptures. Such people call themselves 'New Testament Christians' and assert that Christ's earthly ministry has bought to an end any necessity of studying the Old Testament. In reality the New Testament is based entirely and the Old and contains thousands of quotations and teachings rooted in Hebraic worship.

The example and teachings of Jesus and his disciples shows us clearly that the New Testament pattern is firmly rooted in that of the Old Testament. To remove from the New that which it inherits from the Old would destroy the doctrines of Jesus and the plan of salvation. All New Testament doctrines are firmly rooted in Hebrew scripture and because of this Jesus and the Apostles repeatedly quote from the Old as a basis and defense of the New. They use the Hebrew scriptures as the foundation platform of the New Gospel rather than using the Gospel to attack the Hebrew system. Rather than being enemies, The New Testament presents a Divine harmony between the teachings of Jesus and Moses. Jesus comes to earth as a type of Moses and reveals Himself as the great Law giver.

1. The Jewish Basis Of The New Testament

The New Testament writers repeatedly quoted from the Old Testament and based their teachings on it. On third of the Old Testament quotations are from the writings of Moses. The New Testament begins with Jesus the son of David and Abraham (Matthew 1:1) and ends with the tree of life (Revelation. 22:2). Every one of the New Testament authors based much of his teachings in the Hebrew scriptures. Below we can see how many times each of the books of the Old Testament is quoted from in the New Testament.

The book of Hebrews is saint Paul's only work on Christ's High priestly ministry in the heavenly sanctuary and over two thirds of the book is based on Old Testament imagery. To remove those parts from the book would leave nothing of any sense. Forty percent of the book of Romans is based on ideas taken from the Old Testament. Romans is the clearest of the New Testament books in explaining how the sinner is saved through the power of Christ. Most amazingly the book of Revelation which is a revelation of Jesus Christ himself (Revelation 1:1) contains more references to the Hebrew scriptures than any other book in the New Testament. This book was written by the apostle John to give guidance to the church from apostolic times right down to Christ's second coming and the end of the age.

2. Jesus Kept The Ten Commandments

While on earth ten percent of the daily conversations of Jesus consisted of Old Testament words quoted literally. Jesus based all of His theology on the Hebrew prophets and sought to uphold their teachings at all times. Jesus never spoke of changing the Sabbath before or after His resurrection. The Jews never found one occasion where He broke God's law. On the resurrection morning He told nobody of a change of the day of worship. The four gospels call the first day of the week the day after the Sabbath (Matthew 28:1,

The Ten Commandments In The New Testament

Mark 16:2,9, Luke 24:1, John 20:1,19). The Greek word 'week' used here is sabbaton () which is the same word used in Luke 4:16 for the Seventh day Sabbath. Matthew – 83, Mark – 34, Luke – 42, John – 20.

Commandment 1

1 And God spoke all these words, saying, 2 I am the LORD your God, which have brought you out of the
land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:1-2.

Then said Jesus unto him, Get you hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shall worship the Lord thy God, and him only shall you serve. Matthew 4:10

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24

But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33

32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 10:32-33

37 He that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that took not his cross, and follows after me, is not worthy of me. Matthew 10:37-38

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth you art the Son of God. Matthew 14:33

And he said unto him, Why call you me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if you wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. Matthew 19:17

Jesus said unto him, Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Matthew 22:37

But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get you behind me, Satan: for you savors not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. Mark 8:33

28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? 29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And you shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. 32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, you has said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: Mark 12:28-32

The Ten Commandments In The New Testament
Commandment 2

4 Thou shall not make unto you any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or
that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shall not bow down thyself to
them, nor serve them: for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon
the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And showing mercy unto
thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Exodus 20:4-6.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24

Commandment 3

Thou shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that took his name in vain. Exodus 20:7.

9 After this manner therefore pray you: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10

31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32 And whosoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaks against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Matthew 12:31-32

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, Blasphemies. Matthew 15:19

28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith so ever they shall blaspheme: 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost has never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: Mark 3:28-29

Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. Mark 7:22

And he said unto them, When you pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Luke 11:2

Commandment 4

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: 10 But the
seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor
your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your
gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the
seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Exodus 20:8-11.

1 At that time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungered, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. 2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day. 3 But he said unto them, Have you not read what David did, when he was an hungered, and they that were with him; 4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests? 5 Or have you not read in the law, how that on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless? 6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. 7 But if you had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless. 8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day. 9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue: 10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days? that they might accuse him. 11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the Sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? 12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days. Matthew 12:1-12

But pray you that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day. Matthew 24:20

And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught. Mark 1:21

23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the Sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. 24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the Sabbath day that which is not lawful? 25 And he said unto them, Have you never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungered, he, and they that were with him? 26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the showbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? 27 And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath. Mark 2:2328

2 And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the Sabbath day; that they might accuse him. 3 And he said unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. 4 And he said unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. Mark 3:2-4

And when the Sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence has this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? Mark 6:2

And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath. Mark 15:42

1 And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher at the rising of the sun. 9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. Mark 16:1-9

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read. Luke 4:16

And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath days. Luke 4:31

1 And it came to pass on the second Sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands. 2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do you that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath days? 3 And Jesus answering them said, Have you not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungered, and they which were with him; 4 How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the showbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone? 5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath. 6 And it came to pass also on another Sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered. 7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the Sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. 8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. 9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? Luke 6:1-9

10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. 11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. 12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, you art loosed from your infirmity. 13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. 14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day. 15 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? Luke 13:10-15

1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath day, that they watched him. 2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy. 3 And Jesus answering spoke unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day? 4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go; 5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the Sabbath day? Luke 14:1-5

54 And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drew on. 55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid. 56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment. Luke 23:56

9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the Sabbath. 10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the Sabbath day: it is not lawful for you to carry thy bed. 16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the Sabbath day. 17 But Jesus answered them, My Father works hitherto, and I work. 18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the Sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. John 5:9-18

22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and you on the Sabbath day circumcise a man. 23 If a man on the Sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are you angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the Sabbath day? John 7:22-23

14 And it was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. 15 Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see. 16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keeps not the Sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. John 9:14-16

Commandment 5

Honor your father and your mother: that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God gives you. Exodus 20:12.

3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do you also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death. Matthew 15:3-4

18 He said unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shall do no murder, Thou shall not commit adultery, Thou shall not steal, Thou shall not bear false witness, 19 Honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. Matthew 19:18-19

Thou know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor thy father and mother. Mark 10:19

Commandment 6

Thou shall not kill. Exodus 20:13.

You have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shall not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: Matthew 5:21

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: Matthew 15:19

He said unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shall do no murder, Thou shall not commit adultery, Thou shall not steal, Thou shall not bear false witness. Matthew 19:18

31 Wherefore you be witnesses unto yourselves, that you are the children of them which killed the prophets. 32 Fill you up then the measure of your fathers. 33 You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape the damnation of hell? 34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them you shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall you scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: 35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom you slew between the temple and the altar. Matthew 23:31-35

Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Matthew 26:52

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders. Mark 7:21

Thou know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor thy father and mother. Mark 10:19

The Son of man indeed goes, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! Good were it for that man if he had never been born. Mark 14:21

47 Woe unto you! For you build the sepulchers of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. 48 Truly you bear witness that you allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and you build their sepulchers. 49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute: 50 That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; 51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation. Luke 11:47-51

4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear him, which after he has killed has power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. Luke 12:4-5

Thou know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor thy father and thy mother. Luke 18:20

19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why go you about to kill me? 20 The people answered and said, Thou has a devil: who goes about to kill you? John 7:19-20

You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. John 8:44

They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time comes, that whosoever kills you will think that he does God service. John 16:2

But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate said unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. John 19:15

Commandment 7

Thou shall not commit adultery. Exodus 20:14

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Matthew 5:8

27 You have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shall not commit adultery: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. 29 And if thy right eye offend you, pluck it out, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. 30 And if thy right hand offend you, cut it off, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. 31 It has been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: 32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced commits adultery. Matthew 5:27-32

But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: Matthew 12:39

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: Matthew 15:19

A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed. Matthew 16:4

9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery: and whoso marries her which is put away does commit adultery. 10 His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. 11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. 12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it. 17 And he said unto him, Why call you me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if you wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18 He said unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shall do no murder, Thou shall not commit adultery, Thou shall not steal, Thou shall not bear false witness. Matthew 19:9,18

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders. Mark 7:21

2 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? Tempting him. 3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? 4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. 5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. 6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; 8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder. 10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. 11 And he said unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, commits adultery against her. 12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she commits adultery. Mark 10:2-12

Thou know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor thy father and mother. Mark 10:19

3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. John 8:3-4

Commandment 8

Thou shall not steal. Exodus 20:15.

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: Matthew 6:19-20

12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and over threw the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves. Matthew 21:12-13

But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. Matthew 21:38

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore you shall receive the greater damnation. Matthew 23:14

And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. 69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. 70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely you art one of them: for you art a Galilaean, and thy speech agrees thereto. 71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom you speak. 72 And the second time the cock crew. Because you say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. 19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore shall they be your judges. 20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. Luke 11:15-20

And Peter said, Man, I am not. 59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. 60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what you say. And immediately, while he yet spoke, the cock crew. 61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, you shall deny me thrice. 62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly. Luke 22:54-62

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. John 18:25-27

15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses. 16 And he spoke a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you has much goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you has provided? 21 So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. Luke 12:15-21

19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried. The only one of the Ten Commandments not referred to in the gospels is the second commandment. This is because there was no need to as the Jews were not involved in idol worship after the Babylonian exile.

3. Paul Kept The Ten Commandments

Every one of the Ten Commandments including the Sabbath commandment are referred to in Paul's writings. On the road to Damascus Paul is converted and becomes a champion of Christ and the Law that He proclaimed on mount Sinai (1 Corinthians 10:1-4). Instead of teaching others that the law was abolished he tells them in his preaching and writing to obey the demands of the Decalogue. While there was no doubt in the apostles mind that the law of circumcision was abolished, he knew that the Law given at Sinai was eternally binding (1 Corinthians 7:19) on all mankind.

The first controversy in worship styles between the Jews and early Christian converts was not over the Sabbath day but over circumcision (Acts 15:1). The book of Acts mentions 84 times that the Sabbath was observed (Acts 13:14,15,42,44; 16:13; 17:2,3; 18:4-11) but never a controversy between Jews and Christian Jews over the day of worship. Paul stated four times that he had never disobeyed the laws of the Jews (24:14, 25:7,8, 26:5,6, 28:17,18). He could never have preached this and then said he rejected Sabbath keeping.

His clearest reference to the Sabbath commandment is in Hebrews chapter four. In verse four he states that "God did rest the seventh day from all His works". This text is referring to the creation account in the book of Genesis ( Gen 2:1-3, Exodus 20:8-11, 23:12, 31:17 ). Paul then goes on in verse nine to state that "There remains therefore a rest to the people of God." The word 'rest' used in this verse is the Greek word sabbatismos ) which is the Greek word for the seventh day (Saturday) Sabbath.

In Acts 20:1 and 1 Corinthians 16:2 the first day of the week is called the day after the Sabbath day. The Greek word 'week' used here is sabbaton ) which is the same word used in Luke 4:16 for the Seventh day Sabbath. Paul while in Jerusalem met thousands of converts who were zealously keeping the Law of God (Acts 21:20,24).

In the book of Romans the apostle presents the Divine harmony between Law and grace (2:13, 3:20, 3:31, 4:15, 5:13, 7:7, 7:12, 7:25, 8:1-4, 8:7, 13:8-10) showing that both are binding on the Christian. Paul's argument is not the abolition of the Decalogue but rather how through God's grace we can obey the righteous standard. Note Paul's references to the Divine Law in his epistles:

5. The Seal Of The Living God

In the book of Revelation two distinct groups of people are bought to view. Those who have God's seal of eternal life (3:12, 7:3, 9:4, 14:1, 22:4) and those with the mark of the beast which is eternal death (13:16, 14:9, 20:4). The forehead symbolizes the minds choice to obey or reject to God's law (Exodus 28:38, 2 Chronicles 26:19,20, Jeremiah 3:3, Ezekiel 9:4). God said that he would write the law in our foreheads (Exodus 13:9,16, Deuteronomy 6:8, Deuteronomy 11:18, Hebrews 8:8-12).

The OT uses the forehead as a symbol of the heart or mind and its thoughts (Exodus 13:9,16 , Deuteronomy 6:8, Deuteronomy 11:18). Those who love God have the law written in their hearts (Deuteronomy 30:10, Joshua 22:5, 2 Kings 10:31, 2 Chronicles 31:21, Ezra 7:10, Job 22:22, Psalms 37:21, 40:8, 119:34, Proverbs 3:1). In Revelation 7:3 the statement is made that the seal is given to God's servants. The OT uses this term to refer to those who keep the Law of God (Deuteronomy 10:12, 11:13, 13:4, 29:18, Joshua 22:15, 1 Sam 12:14). The servant was one who had God's holy law written in their mind (1 Chronicles 28:9, Joshua 22:5, 1 Kings 14:8).

7. The Ten Commandments In The Book Of Revelation

The book of Revelation presents two groups of people existing from John's day right through to the end of sin. The commandment keepers (12:17, 14:12, 22:14) and the commandment breakers (13:1-12). The commandment keepers enter the city (22:4) while the lawless are excluded (21:8, 22:15). These two groups of people represent the great controversy between Christ and Satan and which side they are on.

In Revelation 11:19 John sees in vision the heavenly Ark of the Covenant which contains the law of God. The ark was hollow and held the two tables of the Decalogue inside ( Exodus 26:33,34 30:6 Deuteronomy 10:1-5 , 31:9) the word testament used in verse 19 is referring to the eternal law of God (Exodus 25:16, 21, 22, 31:18, 32:15, 34:29, Psalms 19:7, Psalms 78:5, Psalms 81:3,4, Is 8:16,20 ). The ark still contained the Testament Law when John was in vision 60 years after Jesus had gone back to heaven.

Revelation 7:13-17

10. The New Testament Upholds The Law Of God

The New Testament upholds commandment keeping in general and presents the Divine Law of God as both the standard of righteous living now and the in the great judgment day of God.

Matthew 5:17-19 Jesus came to uphold the Ten Commandments - not abolish them.

Matthew 19:17-19 Keep the Ten Commandments to enter heaven Jesus said.

John 14:15 If you love Jesus keep the Commandments.

John 15:10 Jesus is our example and He kept the law of God.

Luke 23:56 The Sabbath commandment still existed after Jesus died on the cross.

1 Corinthians. 7:19 Keeping the Commandments is what really matters.

1 Timothy 1:8 The Ten Commandment Law is good in Paul's day.

Hebrews 8:8-10 Keeping the Ten Commandment Law is part of the New Covenant.

James 1:25 Those who keep the perfect Law are blessed by God in what they do.

James 2:8 - 12 We will be judged by the Ten Commandments [Revelation 20:11-15].

1 John 2:3,4 We must keep the Commandments to know Jesus.

1 John 3:22,24 We must keep the Commandments to abide in Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

1 John 5:2,3 The love of God is to keep His Commandments.

11. The Law In The Heavenly Temple

The New Testament books of Hebrews and Revelation picture Jesus in the heavenly sanctuary where the Ark of the Covenant and the Ten Commandments are now present. Revelation 15:5 mentions the phrase 'tabernacle of the testimony' which according to the Old Testament was the place where the Decalogue was housed ( Exodus 26:33,34 30:6 Deuteronomy 10:1-5 , 31:9) The word testimony used in verse 5 is referring to the eternal law of God (Exodus 25:16, 21, 22, 31:18, 32:15, 34:29, Psalms 19:7, Psalms 78:5, Psalms 81:3,4, Is 8:16,20 ). The ark still contained the Testament Law when John was in vision in 96 AD. This phrase is found in the OT referring to the Tables of Law in the Mosaic sanctuary (Exodus 26:30-35; 27:21; 30:26,36; 31:7; 38:21; 39:35-38; 40:3-5, 19-21; Leviticus 24:3).

In Hebrews 8:8-12 the apostle Paul states that God will write the law in our minds. Paul in the book of Romans uses the same language to describe the Decalogue as a guide for right thinking (Romans 7:23,25; 8:7). This text in Hebrews is borrowed from the book of Jeremiah (31:31-34) where the OT prophet is clearly outlining obedience to the Decalogue. The phrase in Hebrews and Jeremiah is very similar to many others in the OT referring to having the Ten Commandments written in the mind (Deuteronomy 30:10; Joshua 22:5; 2 Kings 10:31, 23:25; 2 Chronicles 21:31; Ezra 7:10; Job 22:22; Psalms 37:31).

The book of Hebrews closely parallels that of Revelation in the layout and functioning of the heavenly sanctuary. Both base their ideas on those originally laid out in the OT books of Exodus and Leviticus. In Hebrews chapter 8 we are clearly told that Chronicles is the High Priest in the heavenly Temple and then in chapter 9 we are shown how the layout of the earthly temple is a guide to that of the one above.

What is the New Covenant spoken of in the book of Hebrews (8:8-12)? The Bible clearly portrays God's covenant as the Ten Commandments (Exodus 1:16, 34:27,28, Leviticus 24:8, 26:15, Deuteronomy 4:13,23, 7:9, 9:9, 11, 15, 17:2, Joshua 23:16, 2 Kings 17:35,38, 2 Chronicles 6:11, Nehemiah 1:5, Psalms 25:10,

78:10 , 103:18, 111:9,10, Isaiah 24:5, 56:6, Jeremiah 22:9, 31:31-34, Daniel 9:4, Hosea 8:1, Malachi 2:8). The children of Israel promised at Sinai to obey all that God had told them (Exodus 19:8) but soon after they were worshipping the golden calf (Exodus 32:4). This covenant only lasted 40 days. The new covenant is also based on God's law being written on the heart (Hebrews 8:8-12). Both the Old and the New are part of the one everlasting Covenant which is the Eternal Law of God (1 Chronicles 16:17, Psalms 105:10, Isaiah 24:5).
